Home sweet home
Terry sat in the lobby of the large General Mills office, with several other men. Terry was waiting for the moment he would be called in to the conference room to be interviewed for the job. Terry had been offered a job by a friend who ended up working for General Mills and saw he was looking for a job. The job was as a salesman he would have to move a lot but that didn’t bother him he was young and had his whole life ahead of him. Terry sat patiently as he waited all the while thinking of the future and what he wanted to do and where he would end up. As more names are called, he sat and thought about getting the job, and what it would be like. Terry had gone to college for becoming a youth pastor and had no previous sales experience. His only large jobs where as a youth pastor and a commercial fisherman. Terry also wasn’t that excited for this job either, this was not his first pick of a job. He wanted to be a pilot but due to his eyesight he was not able to become a pilot. The call finally came derailing Terry’s train of thought and bringing him back to the present. He stands tall straightens his tie and moves for the open door to the conference room. Terry sits down in a chair at the far end of the table and pulls himself in. He breaths in and waits for the man to sit at the table. The man sits down and proceeds to cup his hands together on the table. “Why should we, as a large company hire you as a salesman?" said the man in a monotonous yet brooding tone.
Terry took a moment he had no experience as a salesman and had no straight answer, he had to think outside the box. “Well sir” he began.
SLAM!! the car door shut behind Terry as he sat in his car. Not sure how to the interview went Terry began to drive home.
When he got home Terry was met by his wife Sharron, “how did it go?” She said “he said he would call me back when they made their decision” Terry replied.
That night Terry prayed “oh lord our god please give me that job it would be amazing if I got it so please I need that job amen.” Terry then proceeded to turn over in his bed and Went to sleep. A few days passed and Terry waited patiently. Finally after waiting for a week the phone call came.
“Hello Faulkner house this is Terry speaking how may i help you?” “Hi Terry this is the General Mills representative calling to inform you that you have the job!” Terry could barely keep his excitement contained. After hanging up he screamed for joy.
“I got the job!” he exclaimed he was told by the rep he would start the next day.
As Terry walked into work he was nervous, Where would they send him first, would it be far? As he walked further others said hello and introduced themselves it made Terry feel right at home. He sat down in his new cubicle. As he was setting up he was called into the conference room where he had been interviewed for the job.
A man sat by him and said “sorry for doing this to you on such short notice. By the end of the month we need you to moved to a small town called Grants Pass in Oregon.” Terry was astounded at how fast they were already moving him around.
“Well sir i have no place to argue with you, you are the bos, I'll start packing my bags.” Terry said the manager laughed and said
"And this is why we hired you!" Over the next month Terry and Sharon packed their things. Terry took a liking to the views and geography of the reagan and thought about one day living there. When in Grants Pass Terry met John and Linda Fralick at a church they attended. John and Terry became fast friends, Often hanging out for hours discussing the bible, things going on at work and life in general.
One night John was telling a story about his kids, when he brought up the Question “Terry are you ever planning on having kids?” Terry pondered this why hadn't he had kids yet what was stopping him?
“Yes, after all this traveling dies down” replied Terry. After two years Terry had to move this time General Mills sent him to Portland Oregon. Here Terry considered the idea of raising a family. He preferred Grants Pass over Portland, but still it's a suitable place. As the years went on Terry made and then lost friends and wanted to settle down but he had to persevere.
Terry and Sharon began to try to have children over the course of two years they tried but failed. After a while Sharon and Terry decided to take Terry to a doctor. After many examinations the doctor came to a conclusion.
“I'm sorry Mr. and Mrs. Faulkner but I have to tell you Terry is infertile and cannot have children.” Terry didn't give up hope yet. While they were on the move Terry looked for opportunities to adopt a child. And one day the opportunity came. A child named Amy. She was still an infant and was in the custody of a doctor. The doctor already had one of Amy's sibling and had adopted five other children. The doctor planned on adopting Amy but Terry fought for her. Terry took the doctor to court for custody of Amy.
"This man has five children I am unable to have children" Terry said
"all me and my wife want are children". After strenuous legal battle Terry and Sharon won custody of Amy and took her home. Even though they had a daughter they continue to move. As Amy grew things were better. A child was the best thing that ever happened to Terry and Sharon. Terry decided that he couldn't work for General Mills anymore. He had to look for more steady working without moving. Moving wasn't good for Amy. Every time they would move she would go door-to-door knocking to see if the neighbors wanted to play. She wanted to see if they would play. She had a knack for making friends but they never lasted long, two years at the most. He called John to see if there any job opportunities in Grants Pass. Lucky for Terry John knew of a job that would suit him well. Working for an insurance agency would ensure good money and a home in one spot. Terry would not have to move any more and could make permanent dwelling. Amy ways nine and moving was not healthy so stopping would be good. Amy could now have permanent friends. Grants Pass Was a perfect spot to settle. As they pack their bags Terry, Sharon and Amy got ready to move. Amy said goodbye to all the neighbors and her friends. Amy was ecstatic to make new friends in Grants Pass. John had already secured the job and everything was in was in place, all they had to do was move. The Faulkners moved in at the top of the hill on the outskirts of town. they moved into the house neighboring John and Linda. From then on they live there next to John and Linda in the mountains of Grants Pass. terry learned that there's no place like home, Home is where you make it.
