This item is a recipe box from my Great Great Great Grandmother. She came over on the boat from Sweden about 100 years ago.
I suppose the box itself isn't the artifact, but the recipes inside the box. They have been passed down through my family for many generations. It contains recipes from anything to Swedish Meatballs to Zucchini Bread. Many recipes have been added over the years such as Apple Pie and Cherry - Cranberry Tarts. Some of the recipes are holiday specialties and some are for anytime. My personal favorite recipe of her's is Swedish Coffee Bread. It is braided, sweet bread with red and green sugar sprinkles on top. It's best toasted with butter on top. We typically make it at Christmas time. |
This artifact is a tea kettle that belonged to my Great Great Great Grandmother. It is made entirely out of copper. We don't use this kettle anymore, but it is still a great piece to have around the house. It gets passed down to the daughter of the family every generation. So far, we have always had a girl in the family, so it has not been passed down to a son. Or not yet, at least.
